Professor Dr. Ashith B. Acharya is India’s first forensic dentist and a global top-100
forensic researcher. He is President of the Indian Association of Forensic Odontology
and its founder-member. He heads India’s first exclusive department of forensic
odontology in SDM College of Dental Sciences in Dharwad, Karnataka, which is a
government-recognised ‘State Referral Centre’ for forensic odontology cases;
consequently, he assists police and government agencies in forensic investigations.
He is most famously known for investigating bite marks in the brutal 2012 ‘Nirbhaya'
case of New Delhi where his report was upheld by the Supreme Court of India. Dr.
Acharya is also a keen researcher with about 50 publications. He is Executive Board
member of the International Organization for Forensic Odonto-Stomatology, and
member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Forensic Odonto-Stomatology.
